I've always liked the '88 Sahara, and to this day it is a sharp color scheme. I have an '87 Cherokee and know all about the older motor. But, if you were to start a mild resto/mod for mild duty...would you start with an '88? I want an automatic trans....and can't remember if it was an option in '88. The 4.2 doesn't bother me.....but did the '88 YJ have EFI or carb?
I'm wanting to run 34" skinny SSwampers or some other similar tire on factory steel rims....wheel spacers too I suspect. I want a tummy tuck, and SUA setup for now.
Just getting the feel for my options before jumping on a good YJ.
Thanks,
Jeff

I think all 4 cylinders wranglers had throttle body injection before going to multiport. For sure the 89 and up did.

I'm certain that you know that the fuel injection kits for these are pricy...in my opinion, well worth the money for a 'keeper'... but you may want to consider a '91 or newer unit just to have that already installed without the $1200 to $2500 pull on your build budget...

I think all Saharas were I6. The 88 was carburated. :2cents: Mine is an 88 Sahara and I intend to get a 4.0 with EFI and use my 258 crank in it. For the same $ or less than a FI kit I'll have a 4.5L stroker with EFI. I've already passed on a few Cherocars for less than $500 that would have made good donors. Of course that is only if I do all the work myself, but then that is where half the fun is....:thup2:

Do it, I love my 89 sahara although, its not exactly a frame up resto job.. spraypaint and all.
