Ive read that replacing the stock shackles with greasable ones help provide a better ride in the jeep. So ive been looking to replace mine and ive seen you can either get the shackles or just the greasable bushings. Im looking to understand better what exactly they do and whether i should buy a set or not. If i do buy I will get the "0" ones. Not looking for a lift.
Do I just need the bushings or do i get the whole kit?
How does replacing the shackles help with the ride?
Do I need to replace the front and rear shackles?
Thanks for taking the time to answer a noob! and his first wrangler. BTW..its a '95 Sahara Edition untouched with the 4.0L

The greaseable bolts are what provide you the ability to grease the shackle bushings without disassembling things.
Here's an example pic of what these bolts look like. Notice the zerk fitting and the drilled holes which allow the grease to travel to the sleeves/bushings.

These are a set of MORE 5/8" lift boomerang greaseable shackles on the front of my POS.

to add...
1.depending on what shape your current bushing are in would determine if U buy a kit or just bolts... I'd compare prices on both.
2.believe it or not, even in a dry climate, shackle bolts will rust. It U have rust, then they can seeze up...limit flex and movement.
3.I'd do all 4, or its not gona gain ya much.
btw... :welcome:

Ohh..apparantly I was confused about the whole greasable thing. I thought it was the plastic "rings" like these..

I was under the impression the plastic part was the greasable area and not pumping through the bolts.
So I assume that these are ok for me to purchase?

Problem is im not mechanically smart..Im in the computer biz so thats where my smarts are, so I wouldnt be able to tell if the bushing is in good shape or not.
And thanks for the greeting!

The first link U posted would be fine. :thup2: those are greasable bolt/bushings.
Unless U want to spend the extra money to get a stronger shackle and one that LOOK's a little nicer. :) that's up to U. IMHO, if your gona spend the cash on the latter, then might as well get some booms, like in Joe's pic. Currie makes a 0 lift boom and I think Rubicon express does, too. MORE's are very popular (Joe's) and possibly a tad more $, but I'm not sure if they have a 0 lift???
and yeah... I'm just the oppisite... PC brain dead, know more mech.! :disagree:

Is there any benefit using Booms compared to a normal shackle?

Yes.
Due to there shape, when installed on the rear, they can help the shackle clear the rear crossmember before the shackle contacts it during flex.
On the front, they can help prevent shackle inversion.

and they look cool, too.
seriously, IMHO, since your on stock springs, U prolly don't need booms, but they are nice. However, unless U do some extreme wheel'n, I doubt your springs would ever invert, plus you'd have to pull your sway bar (front only)and trac bars for that to happen, anyway.
but they do look cool... did I already say that?
