man pulling the flywheel is a lot of owrk just want to make sure I have checked everything before I pull it. I put a new starter on it and it still binding and grinding. Tried to put a washer in the starter to shim it still didnt work. (shimming is just spacing it right?) what else should I do, I can see on the flywheel new marks on the teeth where it is grinding. Also when it first started doing this I got under there and the starter was lose sooo... what else should I check before I drop the tranny?

You're dropping the tranny for a starter problem? I guess I missed most of your issue. Don't use washers as starter shims. Use starter shims. Washers will create a pivot point and cause excess movement.

I was going to drop the tranny because I think I am having flywheel issues.

If you're chewing teeth off your flywheel, yeah you should replace the flywheel. If you're causing swirl marks on your flywheel, you need to shim it out more or you have the wrong starter/flywheel. In any case, make absolutely sure you have the right starter.
