Hello,
l am in the process of setting up my rear shocks and have decided to put a piece of 2x2 box tubing across the frame rails and use it as a monting point to run larger shocks, better mounting point etc... in this configuration / \
This will require welding the box tubing to the frame. Unfortunately, where l want to weld to the frame is near the gas tank and on the drivers side all the fuel lines and other lines are running.
My question is, to weld in this location is there anything that l should do. l will move the lines out of the way. Cover them with rags leather gloves etc... is there anything else l should do to be safe? Is welding this close to the gas tank ok being that it is plastic? (A rough guess... l would be 18-24 inches from the gas tank.)
Finally any hints or tips on welding to the frame? l plan to weld the square tubing to two down pieces (one for each side) then the down pieces to the frame. l will then weld a plate across the frame and the tubing joining the two pieces....
