Is there anything to buy to coverup the gap between the full door top part and roll bar right behind the door? I noticed that the new ones have a piece there and I was told there was one for the YJs. Is this correct? How much? Where's the best place to located and purchase one?

Thanks in Advanced

Huh? Are you talking about the open triangle in a soft top? If so, you have a soft top made for half doors. You need a different top or half doors. There is no piece if your corners are square.

I have the same problem. Running a bikini top and windbreaker there is a large gap behind and on top of the full doors. Got soaked yesterday when the puddle came off the top. I am going to be looking for a solution to this also. Any one got any ideas????

Nobody makes a door surround for YJ's. Not that there wouldn't be a market, but nobody makes one

I stopped by the local hardware store on the way home and picked up a few pvc T fittings and a piece of pvc tube. I won't have any more trouble with puddles after tomarrow. Total cost $7.33 including can of black paint, quick, cheap & easy fix.

I wonder if there would be a company to call to get a ball rolling about this idea? It seems that there would be enough interests if they made one. I would rather have full doors, but just hate that gap.

Thanks for the responses and maybe someone might chime in with a solution or company.

That top is not designed to fit full doors. In fact, yours must be modified or bent somehow to allow the doors to close. The tops of squared half doors are about an inch to an inch and a half outboard from full doors. They are definitely not meant to be interchangeable. I had a similar setup on my Jeep when I bought it. The PO riveted the door frame bar to the roll bar instead of attaching it to the windshield bracket. I have a hard top now so all that mess is behind me.

I'm not talking about my top not fitting. I'm talking about when the top ifs off and you have full doors. There is a gap between the top thin rail part of the full door and the roll bar behind the passenger and driver seat that runs vertically.

Does that explain better what I'm asking? I know the TJs have a piece that covers this when there are full doors on them. I'm wondering if a company makes them for a YJ or something stock that can be picked up somewhere?

Hope that helps a little more for everyone.

Yes I know what you are saying. I am in a similar boat with hard doors and a bikini top w/windjammer. I have read everything I could on many boards and it seems there is not anything to cover that gap. I have not seen any pics of any other YJ's with something to cover the gap up. The closest thing I found was to modify/hack/destroy a set of TJ door surrounds and it might work.
I think it would be easier and more cost effective to use black ABS and a heat gun. Make a cardboard template and trace it to the ABS and form it with the heat gun. Not sure how it would look, I have not tried it. I don't have any ABS laying around, but if I did I would give it a shot. Depends on your fab skills. But I wouldn't want anything to look getto on the jeep either. I hope to find a pic of something or a design that looks good. Good luck, I will keep trying.

You want to eliminate the gap between the door and the roll bar when the top is off? Why? If my top was off, I'd just take my doors off and call it a day.

I know what you're talking about though. That plastic door surround that is part of the top frame. The TJ bar is so much different than a YJ bar that it may be difficult to adapt.

Yes I do that also but it is a pain to take the hard top off and on because of the weather. I live in the PNW and we get a few days of sun more days of clouds and a many days of rain during the summer. Would be nice to have the gap covered so you didn't have to put the hard top back on. I guess buying a soft top with removable sides and back would solve the problem competely but I don't want to buy a soft top right now. Or just be a man, its a jeep, deal with it. But having a wet back side is no fun either.

AHH! There were a couple of guys on here talking about building a half top. I don't think any of them actually did though. See if you can get some full door soft top door frames from Bestop. I'm sure you can piece something together with that, some vinyl and a few velcro straps.

I took the hardtop off for the first time since I have bought my YJ. I also live in the northwest (well, Vancouver, which is technically the southwest for Canada!) and we get the same, if not worse, weather. If I don't take the Jeep to work or I think it's going to rain, there is just enough room under my carport for me to back in far enough to cover the bits that I don't want to get wet. I hear what you are saying, sadly there is nothing for any kind of soft piece to attach to, i.e. there is no frame around the door while the door is open or off, so there is nothing to attach to! You are SOL unless you get the OEM or a replacement soft top and run it without back windows on! I might swap out the bikini for the OEM top I have towards the end of summer as the weather starts to get crappier and more unpredictable.

Then again, it's a Jeep, so what's a little rain going to do to hurt you? Get some waterproof seat covers, take out the carpets and store them somewhere dry, and call it a day! You won't mind a little rain or wetness - after all you live on the Wet Coast!

Thats a great idea. Then all summer until it starts getting cold I could run the bikini and tonue cover with the hard doors on and not get soaked. I will need to call their customer sevice dept and see if I can buy those peices. Thanks I never thought of doing it that way.

Thanks for the posts. I'll get some pics to better help understand what I'm talking about this evening when I'm at home. I think some have touched on the subject, but some seem a little offf or I'm just not understanding 100%.
