When I 1st bought my 95 Auto 6 cyl YJ I understood it doesn't have overdrive but when I'd stand on it I would expect a little downshifting still, but not like an overdrive.

What would happen was that it felt like it got to 1:1 after stepping on it to merge onto the highway.
In other words I would not speed up 1 bit but the RPM's would go up like it was dogging..
So for a couple (recent) days the auto didn't feel right??
NOW it runs GREAT! It feels like it has overdrive now- compaired to how it used to feel...???
Now it runs, shifts, accelerates really nice. I hope it's not about to go boom (knock on wood)
I DO have some rattling in the muffler now. Could I have blown out the cat? :ugh2:

Also when I 1st start it if I try to give it (too much) gas it about dies/ I let off & itis fine (only when cold)
Vacuum leak??

That's a kickdown at WOT. Overdrive is lowered RPM at cruising speed.

maybe there is a slight clog in the valvebody or something. Maybe a valve seal is flakey.

Crawl underneath and make sure your kickdown linkage is secured in place. I noticed a sudden improvement in acceleration and shifting one day too... thought man, this is awesome (I had just taken it to a shop for a carb tuning and heater fix... thought they had really done wonders!!)

Then I saw this rod hanging from the bottom of the Jeep. It was the kickdown linkage... I would have left it out, but I was told it would ruin my transmission to leave it as is :-p So I re-secured it and it went back to normal... I probably could gain some of that back if I re-adjusted the setting on the rod, but I never did try it.

So... double check that before celebrating too hard!
