Ok this Nor Easter I think killed my 2nd cd player in 4 years. The jeep leaks like a seive right behind the dash. Water comes out behind the dash near the heater and drops down. Anyone have expierence with marine waterproof stereos? I was just looking at them and are they really sealed in the back? They also make watertight boxes but I doubt it would fit in the stock radio location.

Any ideas? Trying to find the water problem is just abotu out of the question of finding where its coming from since I have looked it's just about impossible.

Here are a few links to some posts of water leaks. Try these first before buying a marine radio.

Thanks I have cut that condom thingie and siliconed the cowl to the hood for pinhole leaks. I'm at a lost for anything else.

Ditch the CD player and just hook an MP3 player directly to an amp. No headunit to either get wet or have stolen.

where is the water coming ending up? On the floor or in the ducts? Do you have a rusty windsheild frame?

I fixed the rusty frame and now more rust developed. It comes out like underneath the heater or ac vents. I'm gonna try the vent on teh cowl seal that up with some foam and some of those other remedies.

Your Jeep is just letting you know that its happy to see you! Haha! Anyhoo have you checked your windshield frame seal and also the seal between the doors and the windshield frame? I know you probably did but just wanted to double check! I had water run in between the door and windshield seal, run the whole way accross the dash, and leak out behind the front speakers! If there is a gap there just run out to Lowes and pick up some frost king weather seal and slap her on there to help keep most of the water out. Also if you need some kick ass sealant for weather stripping and whatnot let me know. I will be home this weekend if you wanted to fix the leak or if you need help!

Sadly I won't be at school this weekend or we could check it out and figure it out maybe. The weather cowl seal is fairly new. It drips right out from there around the front speakers and behind the dash.

****. I totally forgot to check my jeep for water this morning. I bet I find a nice puddle when i get home.

My cowl drain tube is non-existant. Anyone know what size hose will work? (do they sell hose by the foot that big? or do i need to order a long radiator hose and cut it?)

It better stop raining, i wanna finish that transmission install tomorrow after work!

That looks like it may work. I wonder if it will hold up to getting wet behind there if I can't find this leak and stop it somewhat. I wonder if Circuit city has marine grade stuff. I don't want to wire another cd player in.

Well it is official the CD player is toast. I looked at Circuit city online and they don't have many if any marine cd players. I'll have to stop by sometime and check out those places. Maybe a marine unit will hold up better.

The windshield I think needs to be re-sanded and painted, again. If the water is getting in through the heater vent up top of the jeep and leaking down how do I fix that if I have the heater on while it's raining? It feels closed underneath but who knows if its sealing up to keep water out.

Previos owner of my Jeep told me he was tired of installing stereo's and frying them. Wish he had done what I did.

I always wondered if others had this same problem. I am now about to pull out my 3rd unit. I never even thought that slight water leak I had was the culprit. That leak has since been solved but whether the CD player was already on it's way out...
I was thinking of just going to the local autoparts store and purchasing a radio off the shelf so I can just use it for satellite radio. Don't wish to spend a lot of money for a unit that will die after a few years. I always figured the CD players didn't like the offroad bouncing around.

Which tuffy is that? I have heard of people doing that I think maybe it's time I did it to. Where did you run the wires and stuff? Like to know more about that. I think thats about where it's come to. I'm pretty sure I can deal with the leaking as it's a jeep, but the frying of the cd players is pissing me off.

I now have an mp3 player so I only need a radio now and none of the fancy stuff.

Where did you find your leak and how did you fix it?

If it's my leak you're referring too, it was the ever popular "why is there water on my floorboard after it rains" leak that so prevalent on this board. Fixed with silicone on the windshield frame.
edit. Should read windshield seal.

I only had 6.5 inches at most between my seats, so I had to get part #02401.

The wires are run thru a hose that's drilled into my tranny hump. Runs right next to my 4x4 lever.

Oh, and CD's skip, IPOD's get broke. So I got a head unit that reads USB. Bought a 1 gig flash drive and I can swap songs on and off it with out waiting, and it just plugs and plays. Can even shuffle.

Found a review.

Wow thats a ton of money for that. To get that and never have to get another cd player or keep going through cd players. I hate choices. Might go with the tuffy though.

I had no water leaks but the dusty trails blowing through the back killed my cd player too. I put in a Tuffy overhead console. They make them with one or two drop down pockets. I recommend using the two pocket. One for the radio and one for the CB. But do be advised that I have smacked my head twice on the side of it and when you get the cord on the CB mike swinging back and forth on the trail it does grab long hair and rip it out. Ouch. I am overall very happy with it though.

I have short hair so no worries there. Where were all the cords run and was it cheaper then the console? 326 bucks is steep for a center console. Yeah I know break ins but I have not worried or had anything stolen yet. Knock on wood. Could use a better place for the CB thats for sure.
