I just replaced my (probably) factory clutch master cylinder due to a leak from the shaft/boot area dripping down the firewall. I paid a premium of $75 at Pep Boys vs. @ $63 online to get it right away, with the belief that "Luk" was a name brand. I also wanted to be able to easily return it if I had problems. Just before installing it, I put the receipt back in my wallet in case I had problems. It installed easily and I figured if anything leaked, it would be the line to M.C. union. To end an overly long post, it pumped brake fluid all over the inside of the Jeep from the shaft/boot area at the firewall. When I went underneath to bleed it at the slave, it was dripping from the tub drain hole. It must be a fluke that I foresaw with my psychic ability, or is there some secret about M.C. replacement I don't know?

I did a few of them and they are pretty straight forward. I found that auto zone, advance auto parts ones were kind of junky. I went with a more expensive Napa brand, looked totally different, and it seemed better quality. So far no problems with it, I would go that route or buy OEM from the dealership. Its amazing the crap that the big chains sell sometimes, I hate it when something that is brand new breaks that easily. Goodluck!

Stay away from auto zone master cylinders unless you like doing this job over. My Auto Zone mc lasted aprox. one year. I now have oem for going on two years with no problems.

I was able to return the bad one to Pep Boys and ended up getting an identical one from them. I almost went to Autozone, but now I'm thinking I'll check out the local NAPA before unsealing the one I have.
