When i have the back of my jeep w/8.8 and detroit is off the ground. On the left side i can move the wheel and tire back and forth probally about 1 1/2 inches..

my question is: What is worn out?

It moves that much before the drive line moves.......

Thanks....:puzzled:

Sounds like it could be loose ubolts, or maybe a broken leaf spring centerpin.

In either case, very bad idea to drive it till fixed if I'm understanding you correctly.

Also, if you did have a shim between the leaf pack and spring perch, if that shim was somehow lost/broke loose or popped out, that could be it too.

Another thing could be if the frame bushing is toast, that would cause issues too.

yeah, i'm not totally sure if you read it right, or most likely, i make it confussing..

what's happening is....i can rotate the tire forward and backward...i would think that it would have to be in the axle or rear diff somehow....like maybe the splines are worn out???

Barring any issues with trashed U-joints, most likely nothing is wrong. That is the way a Detroit operates. HTH

ok ....the ujoints are good....actually really good...

i may try the right tire when i get home...but i believe that it didn't move at all...

thanks man

Are you talking ....you can rotate the tire/wheel back & forth (front to back) or in and out (drivers side to passenger side)?

Or are you talking rotational ?

I would assume you've replaced the gears in the 8.8?

It only does this on the left side? What does the right side do?

If you grab the driveshaft and rotate it...what does it do? Any play in it before the wheels move?
