Welcome.
I would not use YOTA AXLES. They dont mate up well with stuff that we typically do.
D300 behind your 4CY and AX5 is not necessary. 231 is plenty of case for a 4 banger.
With that in mind you will be wanting to keep your front D30 as it drops on the proper side for your 231 Case.
Since you already have 4.10 gears if you have a 4 cyl. Id suggest picking up a FORD 8.8 that is already equipped with 4.10 gears and getting it all set up either with SOA or with what ever lift you might want to install SUA and running that setup.
A 4 Banger with a mild lift like 2 inches, coupled with a 1 inch body lift, options like a shackle reversal, boomerang shackles for the rear, 33x9.50 tires, lockers, and 4.56 gears would make a hell of a Jeep in my opinion.
Some one will chime in that you need Rockwells and a HEMI and 38" MUDDERS and BEADLOCKS and all that crap and honestly, except for really really deep mud, or really really really deep snow, or that TIRE PIT on the TOP TRUCK CHALLENGE, you are never going to wheel any place where you would need anything like that.
I laugh at this guy that used to live by me in VA that had a 350 in a YJ with a Ghetto Lift and a D35 rear and 35" tires. I'd blow that up in 5 seconds if I was driving it and I mashed on it. He always got stuck when we went to GWNF and was always afraid to rage on it because he might break something. I had a mildly lifted XJ on 31" tires with a Lunchbox in the front and LSD in the rear and I went more places that the guy on 35"s

well here is what i plan on doing.I have been reading about the ax5 and it's weakness and decided since i have some toyota axles. I am going to get a toy transmisson and transfercase and bolt that in. Since it will give me a much stronger set of components. Also it will give me the gearing options i want since i am going to run 36's.Any whay was just wondering if any else had done something like this.
toyota axles......toyota axles.......
get out ....got to ttora or some other lame forum.........
just kidding of course and WELCOME...
i personally wouldn't run the ax5 w/ 36's like you seem to be leaning..
i'm figuring you have your own shop equipment. what you looking to do is going to take a bit of fab work beyond basic bolt in accessories... the toyota axles are decent though (don't tell anyone here i said that) and should handle the tires fine. i'd look for one out af a trd that way you've got the locker included with just a small bit of wiring. i've heard of others using the axles but wouldn't know where to get more info on them.. that part should be easy. the rest of the driveline is do able (as everything is) but will take a bit..
Been running my AX5 hard for years with 35" tires, 4:1 and 4.88 gears in axles, ZERO problems. Yes the AX5 is weaker than the AX15, but so is a 2.5L vs a 4.0L.
You may be attached to your yota stuff, but I would sell it and pocket some $$. With that money I would swap in the 8.8 as mentioned, you can probably find one for $250-400 and will match bolt pattern and gear ratio. Of course you want to regear so this will increase cost and you can only goto 4.88. Another option would be jeep wagoneer axels which you can gear even lower. As far as the tranny and t-case, run it till it breaks, then replace it, if it ever breaks. BTW, what kind of 36's are you looking at? I feel going this way vs using a D300 and yota part will be cheaper in the long run and the combinations I suggest work very well. Also I hate dealing with birfields, but I do love the 3rd member on the yota axles.
