..well everything seems smooth and bonded well. But, I was leaning against the hood and noticed I made an imprint in the paint, yes it was dry. But a film of dust came off. I had two layers or paint, so there was still a layer underneath. I can take my finger and run it across that part of the hood and a film of dust, dirt will come off. It looks like powder from the paint. Granted I haven't let it sit the required 12 hours, but other parts are streak-free. So, is there just that much accumulated dust on the hood over a few hours? It looks like the darkest part was rubbed off and as a lighter shade underneath. I also did it in a gravel lot and cars have been going by, occasionally, but I wouldn't think that would be my issue, or that filme would be on the sides too, not JUST on the hood. Or, would it? Do I just need to touch it up later? Thanks

What should I do if sand or dirt gets on my freshly painted, wet, or tacky surface?
Depending on the severity, you should either (a) remove the paint in the affected area and repaint, or (b) for less severe areas, recoat the area and then recoat the project after it has dried.
Weather:
Painting on a hot, humid day (over 80° F) and in direct sunlight can cause the paint to dry too quickly and produce a dull, uneven finish. For a smooth, glossy finish, paint in the shade on days when the humidity is low.

Wait Wait wait just one minute, you are susposed to paint them?
All this time I thought it was the person with the least amount of paint left that won, now I have to rething my strategy

/\hey it's not Pearly metallic supergloss color-changing paint (just wrong on Jeeps), it's just a nice olive green matte finish. :)

I painted my roll cage with an ugly flourescent green once, and when I was done I noticed a fine green film on EVERYTHING in the garage, including my dad's brand-new Honda Goldwing. It turns out that the overspray would dry in the air, then circulate around like fine dust and settle on everything. It would wipe right off with a rag, so I was safe. Maybe that's what happened with your paint? Just a fine mist dried in the air and settled on your jeep?
