OK, got a crazy idea browsing the forums and planning my Xj spring swap out back. I am first trying to figure out what to do as far as shackle mounts go so if anyone has any help or input on that please feel free to let me know. But i am thinking that since i have to get my DS lengthend for the swap, maybe just maybe a STOCK front cherokee driveshaft will fit the rear of mine perfectly after the stretch. ANyone have any lengths of their DS after a XJ spring stretch or any lengths of a stock front DS off a cherokee. Any help greatly appreciated.

I dont think the length is the problem. I don't think the front XJ shaft is nearly strong enough to run the rear full time. Look at the size difference in the tube. It may fit, but it will probably turn your Heep into a pretzel making machine. ;)

yea, i was thinking it would have to be re tubed no matter what, ill probly end up re tubing my DS when it comes time.

I suppose the shaft strength will partially rely on how thick the tube wall is.
I recently shortened my front shaft myself after the Atlas went in. I'll be using this shaft as a trail spare. Wall thickness on a stock YJ shafts looked to be ~.188 wall. I'm not sure if the XJ front shaft is the same or not.

Unless you're extending your wheel base like 1.5 feet, a cherokee shaft will have to be cut down. As far as strength goes, I twisted off 3 full size wagoneer front shaft using them as a rear. They were ~1.25" diameter. Now I have a cut down cherokee and no issues, it is ~1.75- 2.0" diameter. My problem is that I keep getting free driveshafts so I've never been forced to buy a heavy duty one. The cherokee seems to have solved my problem tho.

IIRC from when I was building shafts out of the XJ stuff they're 2" diameter and .120 wall.

I just got back from the driveline shop and got my CV rebuilt. They quoted me $100 for a 5 inch lenghten on my rear shaft. Good price if you ask me. ANd thats with thick wall tubing that comes with those HD rear shafts that cost like $300.

I've never had a problem with mine. I'm on 37's and a 4.0L
I run rear F150 leafs and a stock XJ front shaft in the rear of my CJ. This weakend I bounced it pretty good on a ledge and broke the rear D60 pinion. The shaft is fine, and I am surprised.

My XJ front shaft has held up well over the last few months it's been in the back of my YJ.
you can buy my custom btf xj hanger...the shackle mounts are the same height as the stock ones so you don't get 3" of lift like their normal kit, and they're 7" back from the factory shackle mounts. can't help you with the xj shaft stuff, but i run them front and back, cut and stretched and recut and stretched where needed throughout my projects. no problems in JV :)
