just moved to here form the cherokee forum. picked up a yj from a guy for 1800. it is a 2.5. runs pretty good rebuilt about 20,000 miles ago odometer reads 140,000. i have two problems.

1st when driving, there is a ticking but maybe almost a scratching noise. it happens in all the gears and gets kind of loud when the rpms get low. when it is shifted into 5th gear it gets really bad, i think that i have only had it in 5th gear two times because of it.

2nd this has happened to me two times now, when i would try to turn the jeep on it seemed like the key was very hard to turn. no problem starting just hard to turn key. when i got it to turn, both times when i shut the jeep off and take the key out, it would still be running. i had to turn the key on and off a few times before it would actually shut off.

any sugesstions would be great

The second one sounds like you need a new ignition switch; the first one is kind of vague; where is the noise coming from? Engine? Tranny? Does the ticking increase or decrease with the RPM's or speed?

increases with rpm and speed. sounds like it is coming from underneath not the motor. extremely loud and scratchy in 5th gear. sounds like a knocking in 5th. thanks for replying
