Ok whats everyones opion? I can't seem to decide which way to go for my steering setup. Again mostly on road with some time offroad. Waggy 44 SUA. Ive seen both styles done well.

Depends on cost....and the setup as a complete package.
I'm running heims and haven't had any issues in 4 years. TRE's...could last that long also.
Whatever you decide to go with - I'd highly recommend having the tie-rod and drag link as a separate unit. Use a drag link that attaches to your passenger side knuckle.......it'll help with bumpsteer issues tremendously.
Good Luck!!

I am seriously considering running heims for my steering also... run the tie-rod under the knuckles and the draglink to the top of the passanger side knuckle.... I hope to be able to delete my trac-bar this way and still have good steering... I am thinking this really could be considered crossover steering.

Yeah I forgot to mention Im going with crossover steering and maybe hi-steer if there is room. Its a 44 and Ive got flatops that are getting milled and tapped with flat arms going on.

TIEROD ends ALL DAY LONG MAN, i can't tell you how many times i've seen heim joints flat out BREAK on the trail. In colorado i feel they are an awful call for a DD, and don't even care for them on a trail only rig, but the reason they are so bad out here is the road grime. Colorado uses a lot of sand in the winter rather than salt in some areas and that just gets into the heim and wallow's them out. I actually have a few friends that have gone from heims back to tie rod ends after snapping them. Remember, when a tierod end wears out, it just gets loose, the risk of failure is so increadilbly low, when a heim wears out, they snap off, meaning you had best carry and right and left hand thread heim, or your rig will be staying put on the trail until you find one. Honestly it won't be an issue the first year, but after i'd say 2 years you will start to see lots of problems, everything from binding in the hiems, to that gawd awful squeel they make whey they need lube. But hey, this is just my opinion, i'll go back to my :smallcorn

I'm behind tie rod ends all the way. Heim's generally wear out quicker than TRE's. They also tend to have more "slop" in them. I can drive my YJ on D60's at up to 80 mph without wobbles using TRE's.

I redid my steering recently. I wanted to beef up the components some, plus my tie rod was bending. I went with TRE's for the same reasons mentioned by everyone else. In the process, I upgraded from the stock TRE's to the ZJ 22mm ones (much beefier). :D
