I have a Rubicon 3rd brake light on the way, figured it would be a very straight forward install. Just tie into the tail lights like you would a trailer hookup? I've heard something about relays, but whats the need? Thanks, any writeups would be cool, wire colors, etc.

If you wire into the tail light the chimsel will flash when you turn in which ever direction of the tail light you wired into. So yes the brake will work but it will flash with the turn signal.
A relay really makes it its own circuit. You run a 12v lead, a ground, a line to the chimsel, and a line to the brake switch.
The switch turns the 12v source to the light on, and the ground is the ground. I think it's better that splicing in for current draw and whatnot.
I ran my 12v source from the fuse block and was blowing fuses. I will switch the chimsel bulb to an LED replacement bulb and see what happens, if a fuse still gets blown I'll move the 12v line to the battery.
Oh, if you have a hardtop you will need to cut an oval/rectangular hole in the chimsel to allow for the hardtop handle. I did anyways.
oh CHMSL=chimsel. center high mount stop lamp. I'm too lazy to type 3rd brake light everytime.
