Hey all. Just wondering if anyone has seen a write up on this. i want to start getting all my parts together. i already have the motor, trans, and t-case for the swap. i am trying to find a 92-up yj wire harness and computer from a 4.0.
i will also be using an aw4 with the motor so i know extra splicing will be taking place to get the trans to work correctly...
so...who has done and how did it turn out? any problems that i should be aware of?
my jeep right now is a 93 4cyl

Unless you run an electric fan, you need a yj/tj waterpump to center the fan, and a new water pump pulley. One small example of little hoops you have to jump thru. Look at 4.o swap section on www.cjoffroad.com then ask specific questions. Most everyone I've talked to loves this swap.

I swapped an XJ 4.0 into a YJ with a bad stock 4.0. If I remember correctly I swapped the motor mounts along with the front drive accessories as mentioned above. Not exactly your swap, but something I experienced.
Also, the motor mount locations will need to be changed. The 6 cylinder and 4 cylinders have their frame mounts in different locations. hth

Ha....that cherokee I bought off you is what I plan to use for my swap. I plan on doing this swap with my YJ as well. Few things....
1. Will need to either have a YJ water pump, or take off the fan and fan clutch and go with an electric fan.
2. 4cyl Motor mounts will have to be ground off, and new 6cyl mounts welded on roughly 4-4 1/2 inches forward.
3. Rear driveshaft shortened, front driveshaft lenghtened.
4. The fuel lines to the injector rail on the engine will have to be lenghtened. The 4banger ones are too short to get to the 6cyl rail.
5. The radiator hoses are different. You will need a YJ 6cyl radiator, and the hoses.
6. You can splice the wires into the cherokee harness, but is easier to just get a YJ 6cyl wiring harness.
7. Depending on the tranny installed, you will need to get the appropriate tranny mounts that attach to the skid plate.
8. The power steering resevoir on the YJ 4banger is remote...meaning separate resevoir as opposed to the 6cyl that has the resevoir on the pump itself. Basically just have to re-route the hoses to the one on the pump.
These are just a few of the things I've tried to prepare for. Im sure there are more I will run into as I go. Do a google search. "2.5 to 4.0 swap" will give you tons of results. Shoot me another pm sometime, I'll give you an update as I go along. You also have my number if you wanna chat about it sometime. I plan on tearing into mine within the next 2 weeks. GL on yours as well!

Ive done the swap also. If you do that stuff you'll be good to go. The motor mounts are very hard to get from chrysler so your best bet is to find a 6cyl YJ frame in the boneyard to get the mounts off of. I got mine shipped in from arizona. Its called Arizona 4x4 recyclers and they have alot of jeep stuff. (602) 276 9606 I also got my 6cyl wrangler wiring harness from there.
