Yesterday was out having fun, and at the end of my day the passenger side CV Joint broke. how hard is it to replace?
Even tho this is not a YJ and you did not bust a CV joint you will get the jest from this site. It is not hard to do all. Good luck.

from what i can see its your U-joint exploded. The link 4.0h put up will show you how to disassemble everything to replace it.

looks like all you did was brake the u-joint...which is not that hard to preplace...but you are going to need either a 33mm or 35mm socket to get the shaft out...replace u-joint like any other...checking for damage seeing that you did explode the end...and put everything back in...make sure when you buy the u-joint that they give you ones for the front AXLE shafts and not the front DRIVE shaft.

It's a 36mm nut.

can I do that write up on my 88YJ? I mean exact same front axles right? Giving me the bigger u-joints. My passenger side seal is leaking and I want to do this and add a aussie locker since I will be replacing pretty much everything in the axle.

You don't necessarily need to go get a compressor and impact gun(if you were already planning to, go ahead). Use at least a 1/2" drive breaker bar and a 3-4 ft section of pipe. Leave the wheel on the Jeep, with the weight of the vehicle on it. This should break it loose. You may need to add some heat and PB Blaster. HTH

Yeah I have an impact gun that my wife got me for christmas but the compressor that i have is only 4 gallons, not nearly enough for the impact wrench. a local here has a 25 gal 5HP for $100. just not sure if that will work or not?

You can do that without a compressor. I have done it just as mentioned with a breaker bar and a piece of pipe.

You should be ok with a compressor like that for just random projects. If your going to get into body work and stuff that requires alot of air usage, you'll want something more. For just working on the vehicles now and then, changing tires, breaking bolts loose that'll work. I have THIS (http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=TOOL&pid=00916732000&subcat=Air+Compressors+%26+Inflators) compressor, 33gal 2hp and it works fine. Loud as h3ll though!!!
