Check Engine Light?

Hello All im new to this board. I have a 95 Jeep Wrangler with a 2.5 that the Check Engine light comes on at times, if I restart the light won't come back on right away and it seems to be running fine but my question is what can I use to scan it to find out what code is being thrown? is there a way to do it with a paper clip?
