Already have an 87, 92, and 94 yj. There is a '90 for sale for $1500. It has the 4.2 and 3 spd auto, with the 4.2 being "blown". (Thats all it has written on the window) I know the guy is smoking crack, and there is no way in hell I would ever pay $1500 for this hunk of rusted POS. It's got the usual salted frame rot in the back, some holes in the rockers, etc. Full doors that could use alittle TLC and a decent hardtop with average bestop seats. I havn't called yet, but he's probably got a title for it. If I could get my hands on it for 3-400 bucks, would I be nuts to have it just for the auto? Think about it. I have the 4.2 in my 87 trail yj now with an NP435 and 205. I could drop those driveshafts, put in the 3 speed auto with the t-case, short shaft kit, new set of driveshafts. Would I be nuts for having both a standard and auto tranny set up for the same jeep? :devbug:

Well.....this season, I'd like an auto. Over the weekend, swap in the auto/t-case and driveshafts. Well.....this wheelin trip, I'd like the 4 spd. Take it out, bolt in the 435/205 and driveshafts for it. The only thing I see being a draw back is the auto and weber carb. With the 435, its so nice because a quick push of the clutch pedal and tap of the gas, and it won't stall out on severe angles. I'm sure that would be a pain in the ass with the auto, but would be bad ass for crawling!

Not to mention, I'd have a whole other yj for spare parts! :agree: What do you think? I am additcted to buying yj's. I can't stop it. :agree:

i think he means the engine has thrown a rod or some other major problem....not that he has a 'blower' on it....

It's an interesting idea. Do you have to swap the ECU when you swap the tranny's also? I found recently, when I damaged mine that there are different computers for different drive train configurations. Not that its such a big deal to swap computers, it just sounds like a lot of work to swap on a regular basis.

You said the body's toast. Why not just make a Juggy, ala Chef? Jeep 4.0L regularly go for ~$600 around here.

I would think it all depends on if he takes your offer or not. Spare part are cool, but U already have two other YJ's, do U really want another sitting around? ON the other hand, if U really want the auto... :shadey: tough call.

Yeah.....Thanks for the update captain obvious. :webb:

It's a '90, so the 4.2 is still in it. The 3 speed auto doesn't use a computer IIRC. It's just about the most basic auto out there. Juggy idear would be neat-o, but my 87 is currently approaching that stage. And who said you could ever have too many yj parts? :jiggy:

easy stuff to part out:
radiator
front clip
fast back cage
NP231
hardtop
doors

throw a tarp over the carcass, and keep it for a few years to scavenge small junk, then when steels up, take it to the scrap yard and collect a final $30.

if you can get for less than 600, i'd buy it

Don't forget about the hood, fenders, axles, winshield frame, maybe even the tub if there's a guy out there that had destroyed his and is willing to patch yours. Not a bad approach, buy it, part what you don't need, and take what you do.

Yeah.....Thanks for the update captain obvious.

the way your original post was worded it sounded like you thought the seller was smoking crack because he was stating the motor was 'blown'.....didn't mean to state the obvious.....
