my jeep is leaking and burning alil anti freeze from some where and when i look at the inside of the radiator (the side facing the engine) there is red stuff all over the passenger side covering about 1/5 of the radiator. i am wondering if this is anything bad or normal, but i have never seen this red stuff on a radiator before
thanks

Could it be that you are using a radiator fluid that's red in color?
Or perhaps if you have an auto tranny - ATF is leaking in the radiator area?
Or maybe if you have an aux p/s fluid cooler or aux auto tranny cooler is causing this.
Or.......maybe a cat got inside of your engine bay and has now lost one of it's nine lives. :D :D

have you checked the system for rust?
that could give a strange redish colour.

Exactly. Have you been filling it with straight water or an anti freeze and water mixture?

well no i dont have red antifreeze, i dont have a auto tranny so its not tranny fluid, i though about it being a animal but ther is nothing else i can tell its not blood, when i fill it i use a 50/50 mix of antifreeze adn water. how exactly do you check for rust?

Rust in your rad. is usually brownish/ redish. But I would do a rad. flush first and then see where U are.

so Joe, now I know what jeep lingo means when they say "cat back", eh? :shush: :untrue:

well i kinda figured it out today it seems that my radiator is roadting away when you touch the fins on the radiator alot of them will just disove into dust. there are places where there is actual holes the whole way though, but it dosent seem to be leaking antifreeze any more just the one night and it only leaked like a cup out since the resorve still has some in it. the raidator must also be working cause the temp gauge dosent overheat so what i am getting at is it bad to keep the radiator like this?

Nope. It's perfectly fine to have a deterioting radiator in your YJ. Adds excitment to those extra long drives in the middle of nowhere.

Well, sometime ya' just gotta ask yourself a few questions instead, and use your own ticker. :)
1. Hmm, my radiator cooling fins are rapidly turning into dust - I wonder if not having cooling fins will eventually effect things? :puzzled:
2. Hmm, if I don't have cooling fins soon - why did my Jeep have them in the first place? :puzzled: Perhaps I should have removed them long ago. :D
3. Hmm, without cooling fins to help displace the heat - maybe my Jeep will warm-up faster & run better! :puzzled:
4. Hmm, without the cooling fins - now my radiator cooling tubes will start flapping in the wind without support between them. I wonder if this may be a bad thing and lead to cracks? :puzzled:
Okay - enough razzing you! :D Get the drift? :dunce:

was looking at radiatorbarn.com and they have a 2 core and a 3 core which one do you think i should get i only have the 4 cyl engine would the 3 core be any better for such a small engine?
eidt i know there is a size difference of 5/16 between the 2 core and the 3 core would that small amount make any difference in the installiation
When my stock one went bad I bought the 3 row from radiatorbarn.com and it fits fine.

it dosent seem to be leaking antifreeze any more... ...since the resorve still has some in it.
That reseviour is an overflow container, it won't feed back after coolant is fed in. Just wait until the motor's cool, pull the cap and look in.

Could be a bird too? :hatprop:
