I have to turn the wheel probably 4-5" before it actually engages the steering. I assumed that my box was going out, but I don't want to replace the box if something else could be causing it. Any thoughts?
thx

Either box or ball joints. Also, sometimes not having the track bar adds a little play, but IMHO, not very much. I also noticed just a tad more slop when I added 1" shackels. I assumed because that changes caster a bit. But thats just a quess. :ko:

Definately the steering shaft. I have an 87 with power steering that the box is ok, the shaft u-joint at the box is bad. My search of junk yards found nothing with a decent joint in it. I broke down and bought a new shaft ( 219.00 & free shipping ) from Summit racing.
I'll be installing it alonf with new powersteering hoses 10/15... what a way to spend a Saturday morning.... Then I'll be wheeling the dunes in the afternoon. :clapping:
