:thup2: :bigpink: :bigpink: :pablo: :tirehead: Well i am going to make my own bumper and would like to know what you think of my ideas. i am going to make a bumper that is boxed in so it will be like a brick wall for someone to run into. although there is a slight problem i didn't really want it to stick out any further then the stock bumper. so i asked my sisters boyfriend for any ideas and he said to make three different chambers. one big one to stick out because of the steering arms and pump under the existing bumper. and the reason for the boxed in bumper is that i want to put off-road lights into the bumper itself. i am going to do the rear hitch the same way. i'll try to get pics once i start but still drawing it up on CAD.

hey man

ok do you know how much money it costs to make your own bumpers i mean i will say i am making a set for my 88 wrangler 4banger but still i have been welding from when i was 10 and i am now 20 but do you know how much the steel is to make bumpers im not trying to shoot your ideas down im just warning you i dont want you to fall into the same probs i did i know from experience and failure what works and doesnt

but if you have any questions on welding or bumper construction im your man i know alot im here online everyday if you want help

i like the idea of a bumper with built in light and square tube works best for that i would personally advise you to r3esearch research research until it looks like you have all the knowledge you need to make the bumper and i will warn you electrical is the hardest thing for most people and when you start to make the bumper research more you can make things but the more you know the better they will work good luck

I made my own F&R bumpers from 2"x4" rectangular tubing, added an integrated hitch for the rear, and F&R D-rings. Sprayed on some Rustoleum primer & paint and called it good. :)

IIRC, total cost for all the steel (2"x4" tubing and 1/4"x3" flat plate for mounting tabs & reinforcement), not including the 19,000 pound d-rings, was ~$62.

What kind of lights can't you fit into a bumper like Joe's other than 6" KC Daylighters? You need to be more specific in what you are looking for. If you want to put a large light (ie. 6" KC's or hellas), you are going to have to do some cool fabwork or you are going to end up with a massive bumper. I am interested in seeing the CAD drawings....

Not to hijack the thread, but since its moving around a little anyway....

I have been working on a rear bumper for my yj and am stalled at finding the best way to mount the tire carrier to the bumper..... I used 2x4 3/16 for the bumper, and plan to use 2x2 .120 for the tire rack. I have not closed up the ends of the bumper yet, till I finger the rest out.

I could use some how to suggestions on the hinge pin/bolt and the locking mech....thanks

this bumper is going to be huge because i do want to put fricken big 6" kc lites but if you have any better lights that would be cheaper and still have the same watts as well as a smaller diamiter that would be cool
