A friend of mine was in a car accident that has left him paralyzed from mid chest down. He has a 94 YJ that he put an XCL coil over conversion on. I may buy his junk to help him pay some bills. First off I haven't wheel with him with this setup so I don't know how well it works. I would consider parting his junk out and taking the parts he has myself if I knew more about it. We live 2 hours away from each other so I can't just hoop over and try things out. I can pick this up for a good price so I am considering taking some parts and then parting it out. What ever I get for the parts I was going to give back to him. I feel a little like I am taking advantage of him becaue I know he has alot into this (don't we all).
Any feed back I can get would be great.

Thanks. He is an amazing person. He doesn't consider his "condition" a handicap at all. He would keep his jeep if he could have it modded so he could drive it but it has to much lift and is not suitable. He has delayed selling it for 16 months and just can't come up with a reason to keep it. He is getting married next june and needs to money to buy a ring.

I would love to have the XCL setup on my YJ, but it was expensive whe Warn came out with it, and its about 2x the original price now that Back Diamond is on its own.
I've seen some video of a few Jeeps running it and it appeared to work well. One of the local shops installed it for a customer and he loved it.
What is he looking to get for the Jeep?

He was asking $5500.00 for it. It's a 4.0l 5spd with 35" BFG's. It has waggy 44's with 5.13's ARB's front and rear. The tires are like new but have been sitting in his garage for 16 months. The engine is a long block with 6,700 miles on it. The tranny is out of a 2003 so I think it is an nv3550. It has a tera 4:1 in the np231. I can't remember what else he has on it. He can't seem to sell it so I'm going to buy it and part it out. I already have offers on most of it and will clear about about $2500.00-$3000.00 after I take out the $5500.00 it cost me. I will then give him what I clear .I will be posting a list of stuff I have left after the crows have picked it over here.
Thanks for the reply. I am going to go drive the thing this weekend so I should have a better feel for it then.

Tfrits,
Sorry to hear about your friend, but good to know he has a positive attitude and that he is getting married. I sent you a PM, if your friend is still willing to sell it as is before parting out, I would be interested.

IMO, with the setup you described he should get well over the $5500 you said. I've seen a similar YJ go on Ebay for over $10k. I have no idea about the overall condition of the Jeep, but based on parts and mileage, $5500 is a low-ball price.

I purchased it today for $11,000.00. I drove it and fell in love with it. It is in better shape than mine. I am going to give mine to my 17 year old. She has been wanting a jeep. Thanks for all of your kind words.

Sounds like a pretty good end to the story. Now you get 2 jeeps and hopefully you can take your buddy for a ride once in a while.

Sorry to hear about your friend. :( It was certainly nice of you to offer to buy it for ~$5,500, do the leg work to sell items off & then pass the profits back to him in an effort to help him out given the circumstances.
Maybe I'm missing something here though. Why would you pay 2X's the original asking price? Is it because the original $5,500 was a placeholder and the profits were hopefully going to bring a net sale amount of close to $11K if things went well? Just curious. :)

You not really missing anything Joe. My original plan was to part the thing out after I took what I wanted and give him the profits. Turned out his is in better shape than mine. So I am going to swap some select parts off of mine and give it to my daughter. I just desided to keep it for myself and didn't feel right taking advantage of him just because he has fallen on hard times. He was more than willing to let me have it for $5500.00 but I just couldn't do it. I told him he could get $11000.00 for it if he really tried. This way we both are happy.
