Just looking for opinions - I need new tires before I make the 400 mile trip to college in a few weeks. All I've ever used is siped BFG muds, and I like them. The 32x11.50s tuck perfectly.
Been thinking about more BFGs, MTRs, maybe Trxus. I'd like to have something that lasts a decent amount on the street, but still a mud terrain. I'll be living in the Black Hills area in SD, so there's mud, granite, trees, snow, etc.
32 or 33 would be good, and I have 7 inch wheels.
Any suggestions are welcome.

MTR's are very popular and are hard to beat for overall mileage and wear and off road performance. Lots of guys on the boards run them as do I.
Just a quick little story... when I first put them on, a buddy and I went up to a local trail to try them out.(and my new gears, too.) After climbing a coulpe sizeable boulders, on a very steep up hill part of the trail, I needed to hug a very large ponderosa pine to get my passenger front on the next big boulder. My buddy was "supposed" to be spotting for me. I said..."soon as my front right catches that tree, motion me to turn left to get on that rock". I start up my line, all the time watching him. Next thing I know my front starts going up. THen up some more. Then WAAAAY up. Almost verticle it seemed. I was starting to loose sight of my friend, but I could still just see this surprised look on his face. I quickly concluded I needed to turn at this point even though he did'nt give me the go ahead. Got past the hard part, pulled over and imediately inquired why he did'nt tell me to turn. His responce was, "Dude,... your tire was climbing straight up that tree... ON THE SIDEWALL!!! Well, I knew I was climbing straight up the tree, but I did'nt know I was on the sidewall. And this was with an open front! The traction I was getting was quite impressive. :jammin:
BTW... over 40,000K on them and they're still good for this season and probably winter, too.
Hope that helps

Some people dog on the Pro comp X-terrain but i have pretty good luck with them. I run 33's SOA on stock springs. Its directional so it does pretty well in the mud going forward. You definately get less traction in reverse. Ive aired them down and they wrap around rocks suprisingly well. The best thing about them though is the tread wear. Ive had them on for 3 yrs and have been locked f & r about 1.5 of those and have tons of tread left. There are a few chucks gone off some of the lugs from spinning on rocks though. Over all i think its a pretty good tire. If your going to see lots of hwy time then i think they're a good alternative to a more aggressive mud terrain tire. Best time to buy them is when 4wheelparts does their buy 3 get 1 free.

Rock worm, that is pretty amazing. I love the sidewall on those tires. Have you used them in the mud at all? I've heard they're not so good.
I also know a guy who lives in the hills and sticks with his MTRs, while everybody else in our group has BFGs.
I've looked at directional tires of different kinds... I really don't like the look of them for some reason, and the fact that they are directional. Ever use them in snow?
Anybody have an opinion on the Trxus or new BFG muds? I've been on a set of the old style.

.
I honestly hav'nt. So I really can't comment there. I avoid mud at all costs. :hah:
But loose dirt, shale, gravel, rocks, granite, ext.,ext., they work great.

BTW... when they were new, I felt that they were a tad less noisy than other tires I've had in the past with that much meat.

Noise doesnt really bother me - i just have to turn the stereo up.
I know I'm gonna need mud traction, because lots of trails in that area are old creekbeds.
