i was checkin out BDS's website and i remembered readin somewhere that their 1 " lift shackles when combined with suspension lift can help smooth out the ride of the suspension lift. My current set up is a 2.5 " bds suspension lift...i was lookin into getin a set of shackles to smoothen the ride out and get alittle more height. If anyone has any info or experience with their shackle lifts that would be great! thanks!
p.s i contacted a dealer to find out if they would work with millitary wraped springs they said yes so that is not goin to be a problem

I honestly don't see how shackles can make your ride any better, but then again, maybe I'm missing something here. I'm suprised no one else has commented. If your set on some shackles, anyway, I'd look into some booms.

Would like to see there reason why. I had extended shackles once. They are now with my trac and sway bars.
Why not to get them...
1. Decrease approach angle
2. Can screw up caster, crappy steering
3. Look fugly.
I had all three problems when I tried ext shackles. Now my 5/8" MORE are fine, but that is where I draw the line.

personally, i dont care for a shackle lift. It affects your aproach angle. The point of a lift is to get things up off the ground, now your sticking your shackle an inch lower. but hey thats just MHO

hey thanks for the replies guys, i must have been misinformed about that :naw: you probly just saved me alot of money haha
thanks
If you had no lift, then longer shackles could eliminate the jarring that occurs when your front axle bottoms out against the bumpstops. Even with your caster reduced, that would probably be an overall improvement in ride.
But I fail to see how longer shackles will help a suspension lift ride better. The suspension lift will itself make the ride better than stock. The longer shackles will then decrease the ride quality by descreasing caster and causing the Jeep to not track as well.
Now, longer shackles WILL improve articulation of the suspension lift by allowing the ends of the springs to travel in a larger arc.

A set of greasable boomerang shackles may help a bit but ones that are 2" longer (1" of lift) isn't going to do anything but lighten your wallet. The boomerang style shackles can be had in 3/8" and 5/8" lift with greasable bolts/bushings. The boomerangs can keep the spring from contacting the frame on the rear of the YJ and keep the front shackle from inverting with really flexy springs. The greasable parts let the suspension move a bit easier. If you combine these with greasable main eyes plus remove the track bars (if you haven't already) you will see an improvement in the ride. It really isn't a huge improvement but it is noticable. Removing the track bars will do more for the ride than the shackles will. Your front sway bar is sufficient to control the YJ on the street.

You need to stick with your TJ misconceptions and follow your own poor advice on the TJ Forum (since you claim to have one :untrue: :eyeye: ), and not give feedback here since you obviously are unschooled and need to pay attention before tossing in foolish playground comments.
To correct you in just one area : The shackle doesn't become lower.

in regard to the boomerang shackles...do you guys know if they will fit with the millitary wraped springs?
