4.0 problems

my friend has a YJ with a 4.0.....when he steps on the gas it cuts out really bad for a second then will rev....we got under the hood and when you give it throttle when it cuts out it sucks in through the filter really hard and acts like its choking for air...any ideas?

If I know what you're talking about, mine does the same thing. Pulls in a lot of air, then revs. I just assumed it was normal 4.0 quirks.

its certainly nothing that should be normal....my cherokee never has done it

Is it just when you hit the gas quick? or anytime you hit it?

well not really quick but it seems if you SLOWLY roll the throttle it wont hardly do it....but normal stepping on the gas it will do it

Oh... Mine doesn't do it that bad. At least I don't notice it, and I drive it pretty hard.
