View Full Version : 8" or 10" wheels for 33x12.50's
I have yet to see any tire manufacturer recommend an 8 inch wheel for 33x12.50 tires. They're always 8.5 to 11.5. I know here in the forums, most people would recommend the 8 over the 10. Is this because of the need for rim protection? If so, now that most tire manufacturers are making their tires with a "built in" rim protector on them isn't it safer to stick within the recommendations they provide? Doesn't a 10 inch rim still allow some room for airing down without losing the bead as well?

Go with an 8" wheel. Your less likely to pop your bead at lower tire pressure. I have 15X9" on my 33 12.50" and it does fine. 10"s is a little much for my taste.

Go with an 8" - it's the standard for most offroaders.
I'm running 35 x 12.50's on 8" rim (black rockcrawlers).
No problems at all and they're cheap to replace when ya bitch 'em up or bend 'em.
Aren't 8" rims less expensive than a 10" rim??

I also agree. Less likely to bend an axle with 8" wheels.

Besides the fact that 8" wheels hold the tire on better, a 33x12.50 tire looks much much better on 8" rims.
I saw a jeep similar to mine with 33 X-Terrains on 10" wide rims, they looked much smaller then my X-terrains, they didn't look as big or bulging as mine on 8" wide rims
