I spoke with a mechanic about changing the fluid in my AX5 tranny. I told him I hadn't had any problems with it but thought it was time to change it because I bought the jeep used and didn't know when it was last changed. He warned me that changing the fluid may cause me some problems with the transmission. He told me he had seen transmissions fail shortly after changing the fluid and mentioned having me sign a form, some sort of release of liability? This guy has been good to me in the past and will change all of the fluids (difs, tranny, t-case and engine oil) for a realy good price. Right now I don't have time to deal with doing it myself.
I had never heard of a tranny failing because of a fluid change, does this sound right? BTW I have 70,000 on the jeep and have had it for a few thousand of those miles.
