Does any one else have the coil conversion that Rock Krawler makes?
I was JW, to see if you have had the same day to day problems as i am having. every time i leave a trail i have to make sure i didnt break anything important ( and i usualy have).
I mean come on tell me if im asking too much but i seriously break some part of my $3500 dollar suspention EVERY TIME i wheel, not to mention the early kits front torq arm design flaw that cost my jeep a 3 and one half roll over at 55 Mph.
other than than all that.... its a pretty good kit if you have lots of spare parts and tools on the trail.:bangnerd:

I'm now convinced that I will keep my simple, cheap, and very effective SOA leaf suspension. Hope you get that bugger figured out.

Im not trying to bad mouth rockkrawler or any thing.well, i dunno. all im going to say about my expreiance with the stretch coil conversion is that if i wasent so knowlegdeable and if i didnt have the facilities. this kit would be an absolute no go just for the simple fact that i had to make my own modifications to make it work correctly. one thing i do like about it is that they used solid stock insted of tubing for the control arms which is nice.
the main problems i am having was first the front torq arm design, there is only one on the dirvers side, if it fails then so does the whole front suspention (and the first design did) the second design they sent me works much better but i sheered the bolt off that holds it inplace, luckly i had a spare on the trail with me.
second there Krawler joints "explode" on me quite often usualy at least one per wheeling trip altho this past trip to tellico i had no problems with them. i have gone through 4 rebuild kits that are only 6 bucks a pop.
and thirdly the rear upper control arms are mounted to a brace that is bolted between the axel housing and the diff cover. i dont know how they ever expected these small 5/16 bolts to take the kinds of force that is laid upon them, mine sure didnt and i was soon faced with having to drill out and heli-coil all of the bolts for added support, i have now just gone with a weld in cradle.
after much time consumming and expencive trial and error tuning on it it serves me well.
I am headed to tellico in 2 weeks and im going to trailor it this time insted of driving , so needless to say im going to be extra hard on it to show up all the TJ boys in my club.
I am hoping that this will be my first suspention problem free wheeling trip sence the new suspention almost 13 months ago. ill leave a post to let you guys know
now about thoes damn U joints....

I'd like to see it. hmmm.....I wonder if they'd consider an Arizona test vehicle? Awesome ZJ kit too...maybe I can convince the wife to give her ZJ a little attitude.

Look closer they have a system for YJ's too
How long are those coilovers? Does it realy use the factory shock tower in the front?!

I just caught the YJ Coil Conversion under the "IN THE NEWS", fourth item down.
Should be interesting to see how things work out for those looking to do something like this.

they are 12 inch travel coil overs
and yes it uses the stock shock towers, but there is a gusset welded in the inside and a mount welded to the top. they now offer a weld in unit.

I know the guy who now owns the original Rock Krawler TJ they built. Every time he goes out he has link end problems. The more I read, the more it seems like you dont really get your $3500 worth with this system :naw:. The problem with mass producing a kit-type link suspension, is that there is too many variables between vehicles like axles, COG position, wheelbase, and comprimises between street and trail performance.
In my opinion (yes I know what they say about opinions) the best link type suspension is the one built specific to YOUR vehicle and YOUR needs. There will never be an off-the-shelf "kit" that will out perform a custom made suspension.
