View Full Version : Splitting YJ hard top, which epoxy?

1994 YJ Factory Hard Top: It's splitting where the passenger side rear hatch shock mounts to the fiberglass. It's not a crack, but, it's like looking at the pages of a book... the layers of fiberglass are separating.

When I changed the hatch shocks, one of the 2 didn't collapse properly. The shock was brand new, from the dealer, and when I started to close the hatch for the first time, it put pressure on the mount. This caused the layers to separate.

Any suggestions for an epoxy that I could inject in-between the layers of fiberglass to rebond it together? It's only a 2" area where it started separating. If I open and close the top, I'm guessing it will fracture the split even more, and cause the steel plate inside the fiberglass to eventually break apart.

go to a West Marine store in your area and explaine or show them your problem. They have lots of options for problems such as this.

Great suggestion. I never thought about a boat supply store.

Or go to any hardware store and get any two part epoxy liquid. Don't use a gel or putty, you need the liquid to saturate the fibers.
