Anyone figured out what the max tire size that can be put on an un-modified WK is?
90% sure I'll be buying one this month, but still coming to grips with it being lower and having less ground clearence than my current WJ.
Thx.

I don't think you can go bigger. I tried and the tire had bad wheel rub and hit in several places. I order the Yokohama Geolander a/t'2. They were on nationwide backorder If I get them next week it will be 3 weeks. My first choice was BFG A/Ts KO. All I can say is no dice. If seems the 17 inch rims really limit you. . bw

That's sad to hear......hmmmm are the springs on a WK the same size as the ones on the WJ? Not sure because of the IFS. If so, ugrade to upcountry springs and add a BB or get some 2.5" springs from Rusty's. That way you can add bigger tires.
The optional tire size is 245/65/17 so if you don't already have them, you can at least go up to that size. That is a listed option from Jeep, by the way.
With the 2" bb, if the springs are the same, you would be able to get at least 265's on....I would bet anyway.
Course if they still rub, you could get new wheels with Less.....more backspacing, IIRC it is less, they will stick further out......

I highly doubt any of the WK suspension is close to the WJs. Not only the IFS but also the WK is lower, new axles, etc etc. Adding a BB to a WK will be way harder and more expensive than adding a BB to the WJ due to the IFS. I haven't heard of any BB kits on the horizon yet...

Mainly just thinking outloud. I don't know squat about IFS, but how different could the springs be, setup anyway. A BB is just a spacer. Do the springs on the WK still attach the same way? I will be buying a WK in a couple of years, (2nd or 3rd generation, not buying first year ever again) and will want to put on a small lift and bigger tires of course!
It sounds like the only cheap option currently is to go with the optional tire size. the 245/65/17. Hmmm.
Does the WJ wheels fit the WK

Yeah, sounds like it for now *D'Oh!*
By the time you have a WK I'm sure there will be a few lifts for it ;) .
I dont think the WJ Spring Spacers will fit a WK due to the different coil sizes etc, but the other concern about lifting a WK is the IFS geometry. I dont know enough about IFS to tell you exactly what happens, I just know when you lift it you have to start changing a whole bunch of other things to keep everything inline and working properly. As well if you were to just add a plain spring spacer you would loose wheel travel. For every inch you lift you would get 1+ inch less down/up travel.
Unfortunately as I said I dont know the exact specifics of how it all works, so maybe someone else can elaborate :) .

But do the new brakes fit behind them?

I doubt a 16 inch rim would fit. The brakes, on the front especially, take up all the little window space inbetween the wheel spokes on those 17 inch rims.

I think you mean to say you don't think a 15" rim would fit.
I think a 16" rim would fit no problems. If it doesn't that is one seriously huge brake in there.

I wasn't able to find a 16" wheel that would fit.

If you want to deal with some rubbing you can go 265/70-17. You will need to trim the bolt that connects the upper ball joint to the spindle (I think). Everyone that is running oversized tires on their WK's has had to do this for the most part (there are a few of us). I ran this tire size stock for awhile and yes there was rubbing but nothing major that prevented me from driving like I do everday. Just through on a Daystar or Rocky Road 2in kit and you'll be set.

You can run a 265/70/17 if you don't mind trimming "the bolt" and a little rubbing a full steering lock. I've had my 265/70/17 BFG AT KO's on for about 4 months now and they're not to hard to live with. I had same contact with the wheel well when doing some light off-roading and when going over speed bumps to fast (oops!). They would be best with a 2" BB, but they will fit.

I have just relaced my tires from standard. The largest I could get were Coppers ATR 255x65x17
I tried 265x70x17 but they rubbed on the front strut
