My friend have a YJ. The only lift it has is 1 1/4 shackle lift. My other friend gave me some add a leaf for a YJ. I was thinking to put it on my friend Jeep. Is there any other things I need to finish the lift?? These ADD-A-leaf are 3". So I dont know alot about Leaf springs.
Thanks

if the add-a-leaf is truely a 3" add-a-leaf you will need to get a t-case drop kit for sure, you are really not supposed to have any lift bigger than 4" with a YJ without having a SYE and CV driveshaft. You will probably need to extend the brake lines, get a dropped pitman arm, Track Bar relocation bracket, longer sway bar endlinks. if i think of anything else i will let u know.

Don't waste your $$$ on add-a-leaf's. They ride like hell.

This jeep will mostly see the road. So I was think add the add-a-leaf's, Drop the t-case about 1.5", drill a new hole for the from track bar, and get some new shocks.

I would be careful dropping the tcase more than 1" i have never seen more than that and doing more than the 1" is not recommended.

If the AAL's provide a true 3" - they will ride so rough that you're going to regret ever installing them.
I've not heard of a SWB 3" Jeep AAL kit, and if there truely is one available, the designer needs to retire. I'd classify this right up there with stacking two 3" body lifts. :bangnerd:
I'd NEVER recommend the aproach of combining 1.25" shackle kit to a 3" AAL kit. Too many other sensable options are available that will give 10X's better results for not much $. The shackle & AAL combo you mentioned will be a sore subject IMHO with the owner & there are too many other things this will potentially cause headaches with.

Joe you're just old and tired of being beat up by your YJ, us young folks can handle the punishment of add-a-leafs. :rotflmao: Furthermore a custom 6" body lift is a great way to gain tire clearence, you can even shim it out by stacking 3" pucks with 1", 2" or 3" to get the desired lift height"
Seriously though, no matter what lift you get with the exception of a rubicion express lift is gonna ride rough....YJ's are rough period, my rides like a dream now that i have SOA combined with a shackle reversal, i can't even imagine how i used to be able to ride an entire trail in a SUA lifted YJ, it just pains me to think about the days of driving out the gravel road on pritchet with SUA 4" procrap springs :naw:
Steer clear of an addaleaf and stay away from cheap lifts, unfortunately you get what you pay for when it comes to leaf springs, cheap ones are stiff and rough, and will eventually sag out or get tweaked. The theme of the week, do it once and DO IT RIGHT!!!

LISTEN to wally he's the man...
tell everyone what springs you run again, alcan? yea those are the best probably ; )
I might be forced to run some cheap springs when I do my initial SOA conversion next month BUT..... will switch to alcan when money permits ; p
dont do add a leafs.... some idiot put them on the RE springs I bought from him.... I took them out.....immediately ran smoother & flexed better
shackles help too..... lift shackles mean the spring does not ride at its normal weight or decompressed median load... not recommeneded ; )

Def do it right...If you ever get a chance to see a stock YJ spring next to a 60,000 - 80,000 mile YJ spring you would never dream of putting a fresh arch add a leaf in...The amount of force that would be needed to get those old spring to comply with the add a leafs would probably snap the spring! Save some $$ and do it right, if you don't you'll spend more in the end, and be very unhappy...

Yeah i run alcan springs, and love em, i spent some time with Charlie the owner discussing my driving style, what tools i carry etc... to he could build them to suit the needs of my rig. Alcan spring is located here in grand junction so most everyone here runs alcan springs if they have aleaf sprung vehicle and i'd say about 95% of the people are very pleased with them....there's always gonna be some one with something bad to say.... but check them out for your SUA lift too, i've got a few friends running those in a SUA set up and their rigs flex like crazy.

I agree. I've known Charles @ Alcan for over 15 years, and he builds some of the best leafs I've seen/used. :clapping:
