I thought this was going to be an easy fix but I have run into a problem. The dealer has no idea what kind of gear this is I am looking for. I'm kind of wondering now if it's even a jeep part. I checked the speedo itself and the cable. When the gear is installed in the tranny it does not turn so that leads me to believe that it's either this gear or the gear in the tranny (hopefully not). There gear looks fine to me but I probably have no idea what I am looking for. Anyway here are a few pics and I'm hoping someone will recognize it and make sure I am replacing the right part. Thanks.

what is that from?? My 88 YJ doesn't look quite look like that! But should be a speedo calibration gear availiable from dealer.
Good luck

It's an 87 YJ that I though was pretty stock, I know the engine is just not sure about the tranny, not even sure if I am looking for a jeep replacement part or not.

'87 YJ means you got an NP207, not the NP231. That's prolly the reason for the weirdness.. Here is a pic from an NP231:

Ah hah , that's what it is. I'll run by the dealer today and get this part ordered and hopefully that does the trick. Just hoping that it's this piece and not the piece in the case. Thanks for everyones help.

Yup looks like mine from an NP207. Make sure the cable is plugged all the way into the Speedo and that the sleeve is all the way in the ends.

I'm almost certain it has to be a gear problem. With the speedo cable unhooked I can watch the gear with the wheels turning and the gear does not turn, so either it's not engaging the gear in the case. I'll know in a couple days and update this again.
