A lady at work son rolled his 84 ford f-150 she said all the wheels were still on but the cab is crushed. I was wondering if this could be a candidate for axles? Is this a hp44 d60 combo? Soryy don't really know many details just wondering if I should check it out

Nope not worth a dime, front is a Twin Traction Beam dana 44...ie: TTB, and the rear is most likely a dana 61 not a 60, the dana 61 has an offset pinion so it cannot be geared any deeper than 4.10's and there are no lockers avaialbe for this axle, ring & pinions must be purchased from ford at $800 a set, and more than likely it has 3.07 or 3.55 gears in it, this axle was designed to help ford meet the rising fuel economy standards on trucks, the dana 60 cannot be geared lower than 3.55 so they had to build the 61 with the offset pinion in order to gear it so tall.

Its true, the axles are less than desireable, but Wally, not to correct a genius :D but, the D61 can be geared lower than 4.10's... Reider racing is one company I can think of that sells a ring gear spacer, which allows use of standard D60 gears in the D61 housing.. ive got a friend that just finished up building his D61 with 4.88's and a detroit using a ring gear spacer.

Umm yeah, a F-150 shouldn't even have a FF rear in it. I think they were still running 9" in 84 but it might be a 8.8"? Don't know the cut off date but shouldn't be a D60 or D61.

Yeah My bad, i just saw full width and assumed f250, that year is a toss up on 8.8/9" either way, those are $75-$100 and the front is worthless so don't waste your time, and yeah i've heard of running the ring gear spacer, but with the cost of stock dana 60's being around $100 for a rear full float 30 spline axle, just seems silly to spend money for a ring gear spacer

Yeah rear D60's are dime a dozen. I picked up two for free just to store if I even chose to use one (14 bolt suites me fine for now :agree: ). Ford fronts you will want from 77.5-79. If you go pass side drop just about any chebby front will work, but stay away from the 10 bolts (ewww...).
