Hi all,
Did a search with no results.
I currently have an 87 YJ, with the original BA 5/10 P.O.S. tranny. I'm seriously conisdering doing a swap.
What are my options for a complete replacement of my BA 5/10?

Do what I am doing scrounge up an AX-15 and NP-231...add a SYE and freshen them both up then swap em both out at the same time. I believe you have the NP 207 also junk.

OH make sure you get the bell housing, shifter clutch and all that good stuff...just got one the other day off this board great deal from Tim. Still looking for my NP231 but I believe I have one nailed down also check Ebay there are a couple there but be weary.

AX15 is a good bet, if you don't need to go the heavy duty low ratio of a NV4500. Get one from an early Cherokee (maybe YJ also), and it will have the same type of slave/throwout bearing currently on the Peugeot. Get a later one and it will have an external slave on the bellhousing. Either way, be sure to get one with the bellhousing.
The output splines are different on the two trannies, so you will need to get a new input for the xfer case, or a new case. When I did mine, I got a case with the trans, made it easy. There will be some issues with the rear mount, just get parts for a later YJ or fab up from steel. May have issues with the t-case linkage also, be sure to work that out before getting rid of old parts. You might need them.
Be SURE to use good lube in the AX15, that is NOT GL5 rated. Many threads on that subject. Long story short, GL5 contains sulfur compounds that eat the brass synchros in the trans. Get Redline or other good non-GL5 oil.
Good luck, have fun.

NV3550 out of 2000+ TJ's is also a good swap. Its the tranny that replaced the AX-15.
Both the AX15 and NV3550 will bolt diectly to your motor. The prob is that yout tcase input is 21 spline IIRC, AX15 and NV3550 is 27 spline output. So, as said above, you will need to swap your tcase as well.

Some good reading...I have spent total of $200 for both but they need work so that will be undetermined until I open them up.
