Hey, does anybody have any experiance with the disk brake conversion on the dna 60 rear? I have to get all new brakes for the rear I'm putting in my heap, and was looking into doing a disk conversion at the same time.
I was looking at this model:

Any feedback would be great

save your money, get the brackets from ebay $55, then get some 76 Chevy 3/4 rotors and 1/2 ton calipers from autozone $100, some soft rubber lines for the 1/2 ton calipers and call it good

Over $280?! Holy crap. I am doing a lock-right/1410 yoke/5.13's/disc's on my 14bolt for my yj so I am getting hip on all of the 1 ton crap. Go to pirate4x4.com/forum and to the Vendor section. Great Lake Offroad sells the bolt on brackets for $50 a pair. I payed $50 for the 1977 k20 front rotors, and $60 for calipers from Auto-Zone. Add another $30 for pads, and another $15 for misc crap, caliper bolts, etc. So for $215 I have disc brakes for my axle. And it doesn't even include calipers or pads for them! Talk about rape! Wait....it gets even better. Non parking brake calipers are 100 bucks a pair! Are they made out of gold? Must not be, because the calipers with built in parking brakes are $300 a pair!
Here is the 14bolt disc brake write up, even though they are different axles, most of the crap is interchangable. Now that you got everything apart, it would be a good time to repack/replace wheel bearings, seals, etc.

Edit: Wally beat me to it. :beerchug:

thought about doing something like that, but do the calipers come with all the ebrake stuff for that price, and other misc ?'s I'd have about that. This kit will cost more, but it'll keep my ride street legal so I don't have to trailer it.
I just moved to a part of NC that just has safety inspection, but e-brake is a big part of that, and being able to get it to work right the first time is more important than the money (at least a little money) right now.
Also, thanks again for the 8.8 Wally. While after I got it I decided to go bigger (FWHP44 frnt/ FW Dana 60 back) I have several buddies that want me to set it up for their rig. And I'll send the others that don't get mine your way if they are seriously interested>

Hey Leadfoot, thanks for the link. It might answer a lot of the questions that I had about buying parts and putting them together, instead of the kit.
Of course I would get slotted rotors with the kit, that might be a reason for the little bit of price kick.
Of course If I ordered the entire kit is is over 600 bones, so for the diff I am willing to get the stuff individaully!
Thanks for all your help,
B

:beerchug: appreciated....there is a way to do it with ebrakes, i can't recall right off the top of my head what parts to use but they're from a later model ford or chevy 1 ton rear....so some searches on pirate and you'll find what you need, i learned a LOT about my 1 ton swap by searching over there before and during the process. Hell i still lurk around to keep up on stuff, just be careful about posting make sure you searched long and hard, then start every post with "so i searched fawkers and couldnt' find ....."
and they should go easy on ya :agree:

If you do any mud at all, solid rotors are better. If it was me personally, I wouldn't worry about spending extra $$$ for something that will only slightly improve braking performace. M/C's, prop. valves, boosters, etc, will make a hell of a bigger difference than the rotors would. For my case, I wanted something universal (not some propiatory crap), cheap, and plentiful. Like I said before, even though the 14bolt/60s are different animals, they are still alike in many ways so if you ever come across a problem don't be afraid to PM me.
Search Pirate....I belive they use caddy calipers for the e-brake solution. Even with caddy calipers, they will not come even CLOSE to $300 for a pair of them.
Edit: wally beat me....again. :clapping:

Yeah, 75-77 eldorado calipers. Ordered the Brackets form Great Lkae Offroad on ebay ($49.95). I will get the brake harware from the local Part store I deal with (Loop Road Autp/Garner, NC) Not the cheapest place but the guys are cool and know thier sh!t, so I use them to get my stuff. I'll order that from them Sat when I'm in town for a day.
It'll be November before I'm back in town to set everything up. I'll take pics and post the set up then. Going SOA with the axles and sye and all the major crap. Hope to have it done in an afternoon (or month:agree: )
anyway here is a link to what the heap looks like now as a teaser.
