3rd and 4th gear won't engage, please help

Please help. I just bought a 95 Wrangler S 2.5L, with a manual tranny. My tranny had been grinding a bit in 4th gear. I double clutched, and that solved the problem. Today however, in one occassion i tried to shift to 5th and it wouldn't go in. After that i lost 3rd and 4th gear. !st, 2nd, 5th and reverse work ine, but 3rd and 4th won't even engage. What could be wrong? Has the tranny gone bad? I just bought the Jeep. How much is a new tranny?

Yeah time for a new trans or to rebuld the old one . Mine blew last week and its the same as yours 4 cyl 5 speed . The AX 5 trans thats in there is real weak . Mine blew at 181,000 and it used to grind for 6 months before that . I paid top dollar for my used trans becuase i needed it right away $689. It was hard to find a good one . I have seen rebuilt ones on ebay for around 700 . Also make sure the replacemnt trans you get is from a wrangler . If the try and sell you a cherokee one it wont work . There the same unit just difrent angle where the transfer case mounts . You'll end up gettin the whole thing in and it looks right untill you go to put the front driveshaft on and it hits the exhaust pipe . (past experiance) haha . Well anyway good luck .
