Having some oil leak troubles on my 2.5l. Looked under the hood, and have oil around the back of the engine and top of transmission. No oil around oil filter or dipstick, and seems to be more on the driver-side. Top of the valve cover is dry, but there is oil at the rear around the valve gasket. Pressure is good, and engine runs very well. Just 98k miles.

What would likely cause this sort of leak, and what do I need to do to fix it?

Probably not what you're looking for, but I have rarely seen a Jeep that didn't leak. Maybe I should say YJ, cause TJs are still too new to have developed what I call the "jeep leak". Ihad an 88yj then a 91xj, and now another 88yj, and they all leaked oil.

I had friends with anywhere from 88-94 YJs and they all leaked oil. Whats funny is the one guy I knew who had a YJ and it didn't leak oil, that motor seized up off road one day. So I think Jeeps have to leak otherwise they just don't run woth a flip.

I hit 98k miles before the leak started. Guess I should consider myself lucky.

the jeep valve covers are notorious for leakin at the back . 4 cyl or 6 they all do it . get used to it lol .

try changing the gasket.....when you put the new one on use plenty of RTV as well.....
