FINALLY got my new shocks mounted. Used the Tera shock bar because I was impatient, and when I saw the price was down to $60, I thought I'd try it. And I really like it!!! I made new lower mounts out of some angle iron; drilled a hole in the middle of the angle (split the 90degree, so 45 degrees to each side). Tacked the bolt head to the angle. Welded the angle to the axle, done! I believer I'm using DT3000 12" travel...dont rember for sure now. I used the center most bolt holes in the shock bar.
So that means the shocks go / \

For those who dont know, the Tera shock bar bolts to the existing shock mounts. Its has machined pieces that fit the existing upper shock bolt. Then you sandwich the two machined pieces with 4x 9/16 bolts on either side. Could go ahead and weld if so desired, but I didnt

I was going to make my own mount, but with the gas, brake lines on the driver side frame, it was easier to just buy the kit. Probably would have cost me $30 in tube anyways, and a few hrs, so I thought it was a good solution. Besides, I did fab the lower mounts! :agree:

no pics, maybe soon! :)

I got it from Kolak, but to be honest, all he did was get it from Bob Supplee :naw: It was like $63 or something? So check bob!

almost forgot to get you pics! I'm doing this on a slow 56k connection, with a bad photo program!!!

hope those pics kinda help give you an idea. would be nice for tera to use some actual photos on their site, instead of just the bar sitting in space...

what is the advantage of having this on the jeep? Im suspension-challenged:puzzled:

its SOA and allows for longer shocks for more travel. Those are 12" travel shocks, where stock are about 7-8".

i'm trying to figure out how to do my shocks with the soa setup. i bought the MORE axle side mounts, but don't want them to hang down like stock, was thinking i could mount it pointed up, which would shorten the length of the shock, but get it out of the way. then i found some mounts sort of like what you did on pirate from Sky that i think will fit the bill. interested in that bar though...

i had the tera bar, didnt like the way the rear end acted with the shocks triangluated, was way to bouncy

i put the more shock towers in the back and used the same shocks as before, works much better and is noticably not as bouncy

Chef: Took me about 5-10 mins to make the lower shock mounts: drill hole into angle, cut angle, tack bolts! Sky has good stuff though, I have his arms and toyota rear disc brake setup.

Having shocks triangulated increases the leverage imposed on the shocks. A stiff shock will appear less stiff when triangulated, a soft shock would probably seem too soft (bouncy) and increase body roll when using the tera bar.

I have the tera bar with bilstien 5100 (10" travel) and love the way it rides.

i experimented heavily with this setup

and the conclusion was that the rear was unstable both SUA and SOA with the shocks triangulated

as anyone who is anyone, about triangulating your shocks, they'll tell you its a bad idea.

its been tried with all suspension configurations, coilovers, leafs and coils and its just too unpredictable

did it give better flex??? yep...was it worth it...i dunno. My Jeep feels better with the shocks this way then it did triangulated

Angling the shocks in toward the longitudinal center of the vehicle is popular but, IMO, allows for greater sway or body roll than if you moved the upper shock mounts either or further forward or back. The reason for this is because the vertical vector of a roll is much shorter at the center of the frame than at its sides. You can deal with this by using stiffer shocks, but at these small amounts of movement, even the bushings' elasticity will have a noticeable effect on the resulting roll.

In other words, I agree with Jeepik.
