Aloha from the islands!

i'm tired of lugging my scuba gear around on my motorcycle. so i was looking around for a yj. A girl i know is selling her, here it is..

95 yj
4cyl
5spd
60k
soa with 4"
38.5 ssrs
tube bumpers.
more misc.

anyway, the steering hasn't been touched. she's been driving this for awhile as is, but i was wondering what would have to be done to get this thing up to speed. apparently it runs great, has a new steering box/power steering pump. I'm assuming stock axles.

she's asking 4,000 obo.

is it worth looking into, or should i continue lugging the gear around on my cbr? ;) many mahalos

$4k is an ok price. I will venture a guess that a jeep will bring a higher resale value in Hawaii than it would in Nashville, or Oklahoma or Montana (just throwing out places).

I see a couple of problems:
You are correct, steering may be an issue.
38" tires are not made to run on stock axles and gearing (not sure if the axles have be re-geared or not). Still, the lowest they could have is 4.88s which are more appropriate with 33s and the 4 cyl.
If she has been driving it like this for a while with stock gearing, there might be some premature wear on the tranny/clutch.

What I would do is offer her $3000-$3500 and sell the tires and the springs. Get some stock springs for cheap, and some 33" tires and enjoy your jeep.

Good luck with it. And if you have any pics that you could post to help us out, that would be great. It is always possible it has had an axle swap and much lower gearing.
