a Locker locks both axle shafts together so you get maximum traction when one wheel slips. This slipping causes the teeth of the locker to snap and lock together.
Limited slips don't lock the axle shafts together but connect them with pressurized clutch plates or similar methods.
Air lockers and cable lockers lock the axles together on demand by the operators control
A spool permanetly locks both axle shafts together and can't be turned off. One way to simulate turning it off is if the front axle is shift on the fly. both parts of one axle shaft can be joined or seperated by a slip joint that slides over both parts that locks it together.
A lincon locker is mr cheap ass way of doing a spool. Weld is welded into the spider gears or the spider gear are welded together
creating a spool with stock parts.

Lockers 101
4x4 on a stock vehicle without lockers is not true 4x4. If you get your jeep into steep, uneven or slippery conditions, you will see what I’m talking about. One of the tires on a given axel (the one without traction) will spin and the other tire (the one with traction) will just sit there looking stupid. Lockers tie both wheels on an axel together so they both turn at the same rate regardless of wheel traction.
Whether you need lockers depends on where and how you wheel. If you find yourself getting stuck a lot, then, yup, you need lockers. Most wheelers are inspired to get lockers when they get hopelessly stuck where and a locked rig just ambled through. Lots of people say that lockers are the single best mod to improve the wheeling capability of a jeep.

Dude......that is such a WIDE open question.
You can spend as little as $100 for used ones to up to $700 -$800 for new ones.
Depends on what you want and how much you want to pay.
In my oppinion...??
Selectable lockers ALL THE WAY.
Unfortunately, these are the most expensive.
