On my YJ I have to have the rear tailgate open in order to lift the rear window up. The tailgate holds the rear window shut on my hard top.

Damn, thats what i thought. What year is yours? Mines a 91. I was talking to one guy with an 89 and he said he can open his rear glass with the tail gate still stuck.

Yup, on mine you gotta open the tailgate in order to open the rear window. It's a safety purpose i guess, because then someone could just comeby and open you rear and get into your vehicle. Mine's a 91 too.

I had a cop (friend of mine) come and try to open the Jeep up when I got locked out at the firehouse. He wasn't able to open it! :-\

I got pissed and just took my tire iron to the window, squeezed it in and jacked down the window.

It broke the steel arm that rolls the window up and down, but that's better than smashing the small window (like the cop said to do).

I had to use a bent knive to slide under the weatherstripping under the small triangle window and then move the lever over.. didnt break anythign and was pretty easy. Hopefully i can get it to work again today:giveup:
