i am trying to decide between lining my jeep with black herculiner or a colored Durabak system. My concern is that it gets a 105 degrees where i live which last for a lot of the summer. i'm usually topless and i take my dog (who jumps around the back of the jeep; no rear seat).

my question is - will the black herculiner 1) significantly increase the temperature in the jeep in the hot sun and 2) cause a problem with the dogs feet (because it is too hot)?

if you have experience with this i would appreciate your comments!
thx,
Gary

I have my top off all the time in summer with my Jeep out in direct sunlight and it does get warm but I do not think it is unendurable at all.

It does get hot, but not THAT hot.
I think the floor gets hot more from the tranny & muffler than from the sun.

The Herculiner is nice but its not THAT thick. Over a period of time, the dogs claws/nails might scratch the stuff off.

My tuffy box arm rest burns my arm in the summer. It is black. :agree:

I have a Black Jeep, with Black Herculiner, a Black dog, and live in AZ. I know all about heat. I do run a bikini top. It just gets to damn hot with the sun beating on you. The Herc actually cooled down my jeep from the Black metal floor that I had. Because its a soft material the heat does not conduct as fast as it does compared to metal. Your dog will be fine jumping up in the jeep to get to his spot, but I would give him a seat or blanket to sit on for the ride. The metal floor is to hot with/or without Herculiner for a dog to be sitting on. I wouldn't worry about him scratching the herc off. Had mine for two years with no problems.
