Fuel capacity

Does anyone know if the 15 gal. tank was the only one offered on the 88 YJ Laredo or did they offer a larger tank as an option? Are there larger tanks available aftermarket? The reason I ask is that I let my tank go down to between 1/2 and 1/4 tank and filled it up and put over 13 gal. in. I figured the gas gauge was busted (which it probably is) but that's way off if it's a 15 gal. tank. And if it is that off I can't trust the gauge or I'm going to run out of gas one day. I can't really tell by looking underneath whether it's a 15 gal. tank or not.

My 88 wrangler is 21 gallons. I ran out one day and bummed a gallon to get me to the gas station. It took 20 gallons to fill it up.

Well jetskiboy, I could be wrong, usually am, but I believe they are the exact same tanks and you can just modify the fuel filler tube to increase the capacity of your tank. There is no way to tell by looking.......
