I am officially sick of the damn Carter BBD on my '88 4.2L. Time for an upgrade.

After a bunch of reading, I have decided between the two:

1. Holley 390cfm 4160 + Offy Dual Port intake. (Carb: $267, Intake: $205, Air Cleaner: $18 from PAW for a total of: $490).

2. Weber 32/36 2bbl. ($350 from Quadratec)

I am wondering which would give me the best bang for the buck. I'm leaning towards the Weber since it would save me some cash plus it will be easier to install (I don't have a lot of time to work on stuff anymore).

Which will give me the best power and driveability? Which will work better at high altitude (7000ft+)? Is the Holley/Offy worth the extra $140?

This is not my daily driver, in fact it hasn't been driven in over a year. I just got it out of storage. I mostly want to get it running well enough to possibly sell. The motor is in great shape. I just did the Nutter bypass and it helped it run smoother. Ignition parts have been replaced and it has a new radiator in it. I have a 4-inch lift that I was going to put on it, but am wondering if it's worth my time since I might be selling it. But, if I don't sell it and decide to lift it, I want the best intake/fuel system possible so I don't lose too much power when I put 33's on it.

Anywhoo...your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

Even though you don't have it listed if you are looking for the best bang for your buck an MC2100 conversion is a good choice also.

I looked at the MC2100 option, but I don't have time to scour junkyards and rebuild an old carb. I'm willing to spend money to bolt something on out of the box.

I got a reman carb from Autozone $150, the aircleaner I had an old one that fit laying around and the adaptor from summit for $15 bucks. made the plate really easy just bent metal. Basically for about $165 bucks I had a good running 4.2 until I sold it.

Do you remember what part # you ordered from Autozone?

I dont' remember the P/N but I called and asked for a the carb for a 84 Jeep CJ with a 304 2bbl, got the MC2100 with the 1.08 jets. Just what I needed. Saved me load of time trying to find one and doing a rebuild and it came with a warranty.

The link I sent you is from a guy I know that is all about doing things as cheap as possible, but for some of us our time is more important and having a running vehicle.
