View Full Version : Jeep is goin' to the shop for "YJ's needed for R&D, Free Performance Products!"

After I PM'd Damon, he immediately phoned me & confirmed that my junk will be part of their research & developement project coming the middle of December.
My understanding is that they will test things as they are prior to them altering the intake system, then they do their magic & see how well they can improve the system.
Hopefully we'll see some performance gains. If so, I'll report the results here if Advanced Engine Management doesn't mind.
Anybody else have their Jeep commited to their research or done something unique to their intake system?

Not yet, but when I get a replacement carb, the BBD is going to get taken to the range and blown apart with my S&W 500 magnum!
I'd do it if it wasn't so far.
i emailed him, but i'd need a rental car so my chances are slim.

I had sent a message but I wasn't able to participate because I had a 1" body mount. It sounded cool. But, oh well. Next time.

Yeah, he gave me a reply of "we are looking for someone closer to our shop" when i replied to this about a month ago (on a different forum). I mentioned i would need a rental car because my Jeep is my DD.
Well looking at this i would have to say they are looking to save the money on the rental car because i live alot closer to AEM then Joe does....
I can't say i blame them, if they can save the money on a rental car why wouldn't they?
Good luck with it Joe, hope they let you post some pictures of it when you get the new intake installed.
EDIT: Over on the other post for this on jeepforum he mentions he's also looking for a 2.5L 4cyl now, though i haven't seen any mention of that here.

I'll be towing my junk up to Los Angeles Tuesday morning for AEM to do whatever they need to do for their research. (Plus I need to send 5 tires/wheels to VA, ASAP)
I go to Australia Thursday for ~10 days, so I won't need my junk till I return "stateside". We'll see how performance items go from there & I'll post feedback as soon as I can. :)

won't your big tires zap too much power on the dyno? I'd think they'd want it with some stockers on there.

I dropped my Jeep off with them yesterday afternoon. Damon didn't seem to care that 35's were mounted on it. AEM was more concerned that I didn't have a body lift than just about anything else. There was also mention that I needed to have a stock airbox (drop-in K&N was ok).
After speaking with Damon, it seemed AEM was attempting to do things similar to what Turbo City does with their intake kits. We'll see when all is said & done. If they do squeeze a few HP's & some torque out of it, I'll be happy.
BTW: AEM is still looking for a 2.5L, stock fuel injection, YJ, with no B/L for another project Jeep if anyone is interested.

I forwarded this to the 4 bangers email list, maybe somebody can get hooked up with a free set up.

Joe, any updates?
I see AEM is at it again looking for both 6 and 4cyl. YJ's. Just wondering if there was a problem with your jeep or if they just need some more for futher testing.
I'm half tempted to offer my jeep again, but i think they'd destroy it as i've blasted them on other forums for their "reason" for turning me down last time. Much like before i'd still need a rental while they had my jeep, and i'd bet that once again they will only accept from people who don't require one so i'm not going to even bother.
