View Full Version : How to Iddentify gears on 8.8

Like the sunject says, I want be sure I have 4.10 gears in the axle I got offline. Anyway to tell without taking the thing apart?

1. Chock the front tires.
2. Take tranny out of gear.
3. Jack up the rear till both tires are off the ground.
4. Get a friend.
5. Have friend rotate one of the tires 1 full rev.
6. As friend rotates tire you need to be under the jeep counting how many times the pinion makes a complete rev. if it turns 4.10 times per one complete tire rev. you have 4.10's.


If this axle is on the ground...who needs friends?

Axle tag codes:

3L73 = 3.73 LS

4 10 = 4.10 open

4L10 = 4.10 LS

and so on

Door codes:

43 Open 3200 3.08

41 Open 3200 3.27

42 Open 4.10

46 Open 3.73

45 Open 3200 3.55

D4 Limited Slip 3200 3.73

D2 Limited Slip 4.10

L73 Limited Slip 3.73


Axle tag codes are located on a dogtag looking tab under one of the diff cover bolts.
