I have a 91 with the AX15 with an internal slave cylinder. For quite awhile now I've been having to add clutch hydrolic fluid because it must be leaking somewhere. I've checked everywhere I could see and can't locate the leak. I've bled the line myself and also had a shop bleed it and it's still leaking somewhere (the shop couldn't find any leaks either). I've come to the the conclusion it must be leaking from the internal slave. I live in a downtown rowhouse and park on the street so doing this kind of work myself is out of the question. What I'm wondering is approximately how much it will cost me to have the internal slave cylinder replaced. I realize I could just call around and ask, but usually when I do that I get estimates all over the place and don't know thether the guys with a low ones really don't know what's involved or the guys with the high ones are charging too much. Does anyone have a feel for what a shop should charge to replace the internal slave cylinder? Should it be about the same as replacing the clutch?

It should be a little under what it would cost for a cluch job, but since they are going to have everything apart, you might as well replace the clutch while they are in there, that is unless you just recently had it replaced, and if you jsut had the clutch replaced, then they should ahve replaced the slave cylinder while they were in there.

I bought the clutch, pressure plate, and slave for $170 including UPS from Clutch City Online. They are somewhere in Flordia and had it here on the Outher Banks of North Carolina the next day. The local parts houses wanted that much without the slave.

Yeah, i had to get mine done right after I got my jeep, and it cost a bunch. In a couple of weeks, I am converting mine to external slave cylinder style, because the internal slave design sucks.

OK, great. At least now I know how about how much I'll have to save up to get the work done.

what city are you in? The 170 for clutch, slave, line, and all that crap is about right. Make sure you get the fly wheel machined if you are replacing the clutch. As for the external slave design im 50/50 on it. Internal its pretected from all the crap that offroad can give it. the external might be easier but you will probalby replace it more often if its wheeled. i have 173K on my x15. I think its only had one clutch job done and everything works great. I can't complain with that design and those miles.... In MD the rate to change a clutch / trans is like 250-300 in labor. if ur in md PM me and I'll give you a few numbers of guys who do great work at a great price. Tim

You must not be too familiar with the external type. It's of a completely different design and is sealed and unaffected by the elements or wheeling. Much more reliable and lasts at least twice as long as internal, wheeled or not.
Convert to external if you can, well worth it.

Well MEMYSELFANDI believe it or not I'm in Baltimore too. I was going to take it to East Baltimore Motor because it's almost next to where I live and I've been going there for over 20 years. They've always been honest with me. Who were you going to suggest?

splitter, if you got a good place thats cool but if you want to compair prices i got two guys I deal with around bmore. Both part out jeeps and work on them too. Both guys are named Jeff.
Frist one is in Burtonsville (lil drive) Jeff
www.adrenalineoffroad.com (think i spelled it right??) do a search and it will pop up. I think its jeff@adrenalineoffroad.com -- would have to check my email for his address. Similar price on the clutch kit and install of 300 for installing a clutch / trans.
Second guy is in Gardenville down the street from my house in the ghetto
Jeff. 410-808-7022. Tell Jeff that Timmy told you about him. He quoted me 170 for a clutch kit and slave, pluming, fly, clutch, yada.. and 300 for install (including machining the fly wheel). Also he said he'd sell me a rebuilt x15 for 650 i think and would guar. it for 6 months unlimited miles.
Both are great guys and do great work. Worth checkin into. Also check out www.marylandcreepers.com or www.novajeepers.com. Two local jeep sites. We are having a meet and greet at Tully's in perry hall on the second sat in nov. @ noon. Talk to ya. Tim

I had mine done once at a stealership and it cost me $500 bucks Canadian including parts. Have them check your clutch while they're in there because the hydraulic fluid may have gotten on to your clutch plate so they may be toast.
