Im over from the XJ forum and am thinking of putting some different mirrors on my XJ, and I have seen that some YJs have the TJ style mirrors and some have a different style, is 91 or 92 the cutoff?

TIA

Pretty sure that all YJ's had the same style mirrors ('87-'95). Don't know about the TJ's.

My 92 has the same mirrors as my 89 wich are the same as my buddies 95 mirrors so I'm gonna say that there is no cut off year. But I have seen the older CJ lookin mirrors on YJs, is this what yer talkin about?

From what I have seen all wranglers with half doors from 87 to 02 have almost identical door mirrors. I think that there may be a difference on the full metal doors, but I am not too sure. Looks like the Wrangler got a new mirrror design for full and half doors in 03, that mounts the mirror in a hard shell which the mirror moves around in.

Hope this helps,

Carl

what you saw is probably just people who put CJ style mirrors on the windshield hinge to relocate them off the door so they can remove the door without affecting the mirrors, i think all YJs have the same mirrors. the newest TJ has a new style i think

There are 2 styles of mirrors available. One is a small mirror similar to what you might find on an auto or other small truck. The other is a larger breakaway mirror like this one from an eBay auction I noticed the other day.

I have no affiliation with this. The auction is here in case you are interested:

Those (right above) should only be on hard doors (with vent windows.) I think the cutoff might be 93 (not sure.)

All the half doors had the type that are on the TJ.

Don't know how you would change into those mirrors since it would require some drilling (the backets mount to the hinge on the YJ/TJ.)

Since you are doing it that way, you may want to seirously consider a plate on the inside of the door as extra strength to hold the bracket against the door.

OK I have these mirrors on my full doors on my 88 YJ but want to have mirrors whenever I remove the doors. I hear there are mirrors that you can put in the door hinges. Does anyone have a link to something like that or do you have to do something else?
