I just bought a 258 out of a CJ that originally had the SM 465. I've got the AX-15 and have to admit being a total n00b when it comes to clutch work. I'm thinking of just having a local Jeep shop do the work but figured I might be able to save myself the trouble by checking here first.

Should I use the clutch and flywheel from my YJ on the new engine? I'm thinking I may need a new pilot bushing also....

Aw crap....the more I think about this, the more I think I should just have it done for me.....your thoughts???

Matt I don't know if it makes a difference but that motor was bolted up to the T5 tranny. May want to give Chris at LL a call he is pretty good with the manual transmissions. Let us know if you need help with anything.

As far as I know, and remember, this could be wrong:

The clutch/pressure plate/thowout bearing that's currently in your AX-15 setup should bolt right up to the flywheel that's on the 'new' engine. This is a great time to put in new parts, while it's disassembled. And a great time to install a new pilot bearing.

Go for it, none of it is really tough.

An SM465 is not a smooth shifting tranny.. just so you know it wont shift/sound like an ax15...
